# Create your custom transcript dictionary

The Transcript Dictionary allows you to teach Tella's AI transcription which specific names, brands, and terms to recognize in your videos. By adding words to your dictionary, you ensure they're transcribed correctly every time.

## How to use the Transcript Dictionary

### Adding words to your dictionary

1. Open your video in the editor and click the **dictionary icon** (book icon) in the transcript editor toolbar. The transcript editor is in the **Trim** panel, and the same icon also appears in the **Subtitles** panel. You can also manage your dictionary anytime from **Settings** > **Language**, under **Transcription dictionary**.

2. Type the word or term you want to add in the input field

3. Press Enter or click Add to save it to your dictionary

4. Repeat for any additional terms you want to include

5. Click "Update transcript" for the transcript to update for your video

Once you've added terms to your dictionary, all future videos will automatically reference these entries during transcription. You don't need to add them again.

## Supported languages

The dictionary works with transcriptions in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Italian. If your transcript is in another language, Tella will show a **Switch language** menu inside the dictionary modal. Picking a supported language updates your default transcript language and retranscribes the video automatically. Once the retranscription finishes, the word list appears and you can manage your dictionary as usual.

## Current limitations

This feature only applies to future videos you create. It does not retroactively update previous transcriptions. To apply your dictionary to an existing video, click **Update transcript** in the dictionary popup.
