# How to replace a section of your video in Tella

You can insert a new clip into the middle of an existing clip, or replace a section of it, by splitting the clip at the playhead and dropping the new clip between the two halves.

Note that dragging a clip onto the middle of another clip won't insert it there — dragging only reorders whole clips, so you need to split first.

### Insert a clip in the middle of your video

1. **Open your video:** Launch the Tella editor and open the video you wish to edit.

2. **Place the playhead:** Move the playhead to the exact point where you want to insert the new clip (click or scrub on the progress bar under the video).

3. **Split the clip:** In the clip strip at the bottom, open the menu on the clip (right-click it, or click the ⋯ button) and choose **Split at current time**. You now have two clips.

4. **Add the new clip:** Record or upload the video you want to insert using the **Add clip** button at the end of the clip strip. It will be added at the end of the timeline.

5. **Move it into place:** Drag the new clip's thumbnail and drop it between the two halves.

Done — you now have 3 clips: original part 1, the inserted clip, and original part 2. Each clip keeps its own transcript, zooms, and layouts, so you can keep editing them independently.

### Replace a section of your video

To replace a section instead of just inserting, remove the unwanted section before dropping in the new clip:

1. **Split twice:** Place the playhead where the unwanted section begins and choose **Split at current time**, then do the same where it ends.

2. **Delete the unwanted section:** Select the middle clip and press Delete.

3. **Insert the replacement:** Add your new clip with the **Add clip** button and drag it in between the two remaining clips.
