# Save a generated document to Plain

> Connect Plain with an API key in Settings → Connections to save a video's AI-generated document as a draft Plain help center article.

Connect Plain with an API key in **Settings** → **Connections** to save a video's AI-generated document as a draft article in your Plain help center.

## Create a Plain API key

1. In Plain, open **Settings** → **Machine users** and add a machine user.
2. Create an API key for it with the `helpCenter:read`, `helpCenter:edit`, `helpCenterArticle:create` and `helpCenterArticle:edit` permissions.
3. Copy the key.

## Connect Plain

1. Open **Settings** → **Connections** and find **Plain** under **Documents**.
2. Click **Connect**, paste your API key, and click **Connect** again.
3. The Plain card shows **Connected** when Tella has checked the key.

If you see **Plain didn't accept this key**, check that you copied the whole key and that it has all four permissions above. To remove access, click **Disconnect** on the Plain card.

You can also connect from the **Generated document** window: choose **Save to Plain** while disconnected and paste your key in the field that appears.

## Save a document as a draft Plain article

1. Open a video with a transcript and go to its **Ask** tab.
2. Generate a document using a suggested prompt or your own prompt.
3. In the **Generated document** window, click **Create…** and select **Save to Plain**.
4. If your key can reach more than one help center and you haven't set a default, pick one under **Choose a help center**. Tella saves your pick as your default help center.
5. Open the draft from the new tab or the **Saved to Plain** notification.

Tella creates a **draft**, not a published article. The video embed goes at the top, followed by a **Watch the video** link (in case Plain hides the embed) and the generated text. The first `#` or `##` heading in the document becomes the article title; if there is no such heading, the title is **Untitled**. The article's description, the summary Plain shows under the title, is the document's first line of text, without formatting and cut to 160 characters. Review and publish the draft in Plain when it is ready.

## Choose your default help center

The first help center you pick when saving becomes your default, and later saves go straight there without asking. Your default is personal to you.

To change it, open **Settings** → **Connections** and choose another help center under **Default help center** on the Plain card. If no default is set, the picker shows **Ask each time**. If your default help center is deleted or your key can no longer reach it, Tella treats it as unset and asks again the next time you save.

## What if my Plain key stops working?

If the key is revoked or loses its permissions, Tella asks for a new one the next time you save. Paste a new key in the field that appears, or reconnect the Plain card in **Settings** → **Connections**.

If saving fails with a missing `helpCenterArticle:create` or `helpCenterArticle:edit` permission, add those permissions to your existing key in Plain. You don't need to reconnect.
