Trim and split clips

Using the trim tool in Tella to edit your videos

The trim tool in Tella allows you to remove unwanted parts from your video, whether they are at the beginning, the end, or in the middle. This guide will walk you through how to trim your video effectively using the timeline and split tool.

Accessing the trim tool

1. Open your video in the Tella editor.

2. Click on the Trim button to open the trim sidebar.

Trimming the start and end of your video

Trimming the start

1. Navigate to the beginning of the clip on the timeline.

2. When your cursor changes to a left-right arrow icon, click and drag the handle to the right.

3. As you drag, you’ll see a preview to help you find the exact point where you want your video to start.

4. Use the waveform as a visual guide to locate pauses or specific audio cues.

Trimming the end

1. Navigate to the end of the clip on the timeline.

2. Click and drag the handle to the left to set a new ending point.

3. Use the preview and waveform to select the precise moment to end your video.

Trimming multiple clips

• If your video consists of multiple clips, you can trim each one individually by selecting it on the timeline and repeating the steps above.

Removing section from the middle of your video

To remove unwanted sections from the middle of your video, you’ll use the Split tool.

Using the split tool

1. Find the point on the timeline where the unwanted section begins.

2. Click on the Split button to divide the clip at that point.

3. Move to the point where the unwanted section ends and click Split again.

4. Select the split section you wish to remove.

5. Press the Delete button or the Delete key on your keyboard to remove it.

6. Adjust the remaining clips by clicking and dragging their handles to fine-tune the transitions.

  • Adjusting Splits: After splitting, you can adjust the start and end points of each segment by dragging the handles, just as you did when trimming the start and end.

Viewing your edits

  • In Trim Mode: You can see the full timeline, including the parts you’ve removed.

  • In Other Modes: When you exit trim mode, the timeline will display only the remaining parts of your video, showing you the final result.
