Record a video using the web app

This article walks you through recording your first video in Tella using the web app, from setting up your camera and microphone to recording multiple clips and opening the editor.

Start a new recording in the web app

1. In Tella, click record.

2. When you’re asked to choose an app, select web app.

   • If you’re on windows, you won’t see this choice. You’ll be taken straight into the web recorder.

Allow camera and microphone access

1. When your browser prompts you, allow Tella access to both your camera and microphone.

2. Confirm your mic is picking up sound by looking for the green bar on the microphone icon.

3. Confirm you can see a camera preview on screen.

Choose your devices

• Use the camera and microphone buttons to toggle each one on or off.

• Use the arrows next to each icon to choose which camera or microphone you want to use.

Record your first clip

1. Click the red record button to start.

2. Wait for the countdown, then start speaking once recording begins.

3. While recording, you can:

   • Cancel to return to the setup screen

   • Restart to quickly start over with a new countdown

   • Dismiss the countdown if you don’t need it

4. Click the red button again to stop recording.

5. Your clip will appear in the clip bar at the bottom of the recorder.

Record additional clips (recommended)

Tella is designed for recording in separate clips, then combining them into one video in the editor. This makes recording easier than trying to get everything right in a single long take.

After you finish your first clip, you can either:

• Click preview to go to the editor, or

• Stay in the recorder and record your next clip

Record your screen (screen + camera)

1. Click share screen.

2. Select what you want to share (for example, a browser tab), then confirm.

3. Make sure you can see a preview of the screen you’re about to record, along with your camera preview.

4. Click the red record button to start your next clip.

5. Switch to the tab or window you’re recording and run through your demo.

6. When you’re done, switch back to Tella and click the red button to stop.

7. Confirm the new screen recording clip appears in the clip bar.

Open the editor

When you’re finished recording, click preview to open the editor, where you can edit your clips into a single video and share it.
