Edit with the transcript
Editing videos using the Transcript feature in Tella
Most videos recorded in Tella come with an automatically generated transcript of everything you’ve said. Instead of traditional timeline editing, you can use this transcript as the basis for editing your videos. This allows you to read the words you’ve spoken and use that to navigate and edit your video efficiently.
Accessing the transcript editor
Open your video in the Tella editor.
Click on the Trim button in the toolbar.
Scroll to the bottom of the trim options and click on Transcript, then select Edit.
The Transcript Editor will open, displaying all the words you’ve said in the current clip.
Note: The Transcript Editor works clip by clip. If you switch to a different clip, the transcript will update accordingly.
Navigating and previewing your video
Seek to Specific Points: Click on any word in the transcript to jump to that point in the video. This allows you to quickly preview and locate specific parts of your video.
Removing unwanted words or sections
Removing words or phrases
Select the word, phrase, or sentence you wish to remove.
Press the Backspace or Delete key on your keyboard, or click the Delete button in the editor.
The selected text will be removed from the transcript and the corresponding section will be cut from the video timeline.
Keeping only specific parts
If you want to keep a specific section and remove everything else:
Select the desired text.
Click on Keep Only This.
All other parts of the transcript (and video) will be removed, leaving only the selected section.
Tip: This is useful when the majority of the video is unnecessary, and you want to focus on a particular segment.
Managing deleted content
Hide deleted text:
Toggle the Hide Deleted option to remove deleted text from the transcript view.
This helps you focus on the remaining content that you may still want to edit.
Fine-tuning edits in the timeline
After making initial edits in the Transcript Editor, you can switch to the Timeline for more precise adjustments.
Zoom In: Use the zoom controls to get a closer view of your edits.
Adjust Segments: Click and drag the edges of segments on the timeline to fine-tune the start and end points down to the split second.
Editing the transcript text
⚠️ Important: You cannot change the actual words in the Transcript Editor; you can only remove them.
To edit subtitles:
Switch to the Subtitle mode.
Click on Edit.
You’ll see an editable version of all the text subtitles in your video, along with timestamps.
Here, you can correct any transcription errors or modify the text that appears on screen.
Resetting edits
If you’ve made changes you’re not satisfied with and wish to revert to the original video:
Scroll to the bottom of the Transcript Editor.
Click on Reset Trims.
This will restore your clip to its original form.
