Remove silences
Automatically removing silences in your videos with Tella
Most videos you record may contain moments of silence—whether at the start when you’re gathering your thoughts or in the middle when you’ve lost your train of thought. Manually removing these silences can be time-consuming. Tella’s Silence Removal tool automates this process, saving you time and effort.
Accessing the silence removal tool
Open your video in the Tella editor.
Click on the Trim button to open the trim sidebar.
In the trim sidebar, locate the Silence Removal tool.
Choosing a silence removal mode
Tella offers different modes to control how aggressively silences are removed:
Natural: Removes larger silences, preserving a more conversational flow.
Fast: Removes smaller silences for a more concise video.
Faster: Removes very short silences, creating the most condensed version of your video.
How to select a mode
In the Silence Removal section, choose your preferred mode (Natural, Fast, or Faster).
Tella will analyze your video based on the selected mode and display:
The number of silences detected.
The total time that will be saved by removing these silences.
Applying silence removal
After selecting a mode, click on the Remove button.
Tella will automatically remove the detected silences from your video.
The timeline will update to reflect the changes, showing where silences were removed.
Fine-tuning your edits
If you wish to adjust the automatic edits:
Navigate to the specific area on the timeline where a silence was removed.
Click and drag the handles of the split created by Tella to adjust where the silence removal begins and ends.
Play back the video to ensure the edit meets your expectations.
Resetting silence removal
If you’re not satisfied with the results:
Click on the Reset Trims button in the trim sidebar.
This will revert your video back to its original state, undoing all silence removal edits.
